2008 Report
Bad Day at Black Rock!
Local successes were in short supply as visiting athletes dominated in the 2008 Black Rock '5' held in Kinghorn on Friday 2nd May. The weather gods relented to allow the 564 finishers superb conditions in which to enjoy the race itself as well as the post-race festivities hosted by the Ship Bar and Restaurant, Kinghorn.
It was Central's Ross Houston who took the win and helped his club to a narrow team victory, with three from each team in the top 10 they had to wait until further down the order for the result to be decided. Murray Strain (HBT) and Al Anthony (Central) took the next two positions, while David Simpson (Carnegie) and Steven Cairns (HBT) - also first in the Vet 40 class - rounded out the top five.
Internationalist and past winner of the race, Phil Mowbray, one of the most famous of the Balwearie High school alumni, just made the prize list despite rapidly approaching veteran status. Neil Young in 7th was the first Fife A.C. man home while Lisa Gamble was top-placed in the women's event. In the junior men's category Burntisland's Mark Buchan was 3rd, finishing 35th overall in the excellent time of 26:52.
